Point Quobba....a place of total happiness!

The Cronan's had told us about this place, Point Quobba, so we had high expectations, and boy, let me tell you, it exceeded them.  We spent a total of 10 days here and have had a blast.  The beauty and nothingness has created a perfect stay and set our minds in good spirits for the next leg.

As we drove in to Point Quobba we were fronted with a huge sign "King Waves Kill".  Now if that's not a warning l don't know what is.  The ocean looked amazing, we could see the blowholes out on the cliffs in the distance.

We were very excited to be here and were looking forward to spending some time with 'The HardFirms'. Marty and l had arrived first, Ton and Cam were meeting us here.  So it was up to us to find the perfect campground for us.  We drove round for a while, right up the end of the track there was nowhere suitable. We stopped and spoke with an old bloke who gave us the heads up of an area we could park the vans, was a  good site amongst the old shacks and close to the lagoon and toilets.

We unhitched and waited for Ton and Cam to arrive, which ended up being early afternoon!  The girls were hanging for a swim, and to be honest so was l!  The weather was heavenly, sun shining and a gentle breeze. When everyone was unpacked we all headed down for a snorkel at the lagoon.  I was totally taken by surprise with this place, the shallow clear waters and glorious colored fish and coral.  Totally amazing, the next few days are going to be hard, NOT!!  All you could here thru the snorkel tubes were us all squealing with surprise and telling everyone "to come look at this"!  This lagoon is going to be totally perfect for the girls to perfect their snorkeling before we get to Exmouth.  There seems to be little current and mass array of fish and marine life to keep them amused for hours!

Meg was lucky enough to celebrate her 6th birthday in this wonderful oasis.  She had a blast and we organised a mini afternoon party.  The Woods were here also so Meg got to see Jake and Charlotte as well as spend it with Jordyn and Riley, and Boo of course.  She got spoilt with a LaLa Loopsy doll and huge Monster High doll from Boo, which she brought from the Carnarvon festival, and some new cars of course.

Happiness the greatest gift.....

Love watching surprise on a kids face...

Tom-girl at heart...matchbox cars

Boo won the heart of her little sister with
the over sized Monster High doll!

We decided that she needed to do a little bit of school in morning then all the kids played for most part of the day.  For the party we served little boys and fairy bread, chips and lollies.  We try to make birthdays just as special as if we were in a home.

Meg had requested a lollie icecream cake, which let me tell you, does not set very well in a caravan freezer overnight.  We had to leave the cake eating to after dinner that night, otherwise l would have been serving up thickshakes to everyone instead of icecream cake!

Meg, Boo, Jordyn and Riley enjoying sloppy icecream cake time!

After the cake, we decided to head down to the beach to hunt for crabs.  The Cronan's had given us the heads up that going down to the beach at night was a must to see many tiny creatures running wild.  Well they were not joking!  There was hundreds of crabs scattering on the beach, Jordyn squealed so loud, leaping up on Cam's back and deafening him.  We all laughed hysterically thinking she was playing, but in the end we felt really bad as she was utterly frightened and scared.  Poor thing.  Marty went out pretending to be Bear Giles grabbing any crabs he could.  Kids ending up latching onto to him for the fun.   Was really funny watching the crabs run down into the water or into holes in the beach to get away from us.

Jordyn screaming on top of Cam's shoulders!!!

Riley's a bit braver than his sister....

So all in all, Meg had had a fantastic birthday with all her travelling mates.  Exactly what we wanted for her too. Can't believe our little girl is 6 already, seeing when we left for this trip she had just turned 3! God time flies when your having fun....

The next day Jack and Julie came out after lunch so we all headed up to the blowholes to check it out.  The blowholes themselves weren't as powerful as the ones at Steep Point, but it was still cool for the kids to watch.  l had more fun watching the waves on the left hand side crashing into the cliff with such monstrous force!  Couldn't believe my eyes when amongst the sea spray from the waves there were fishermen on the cliffs.  No way would you catch me on the side of the cliff with those waves smashing below my feet!  Boo found some crabs hiding under a rock near a water pool which didn't surprise me one bit,  she tends to have such an eye for finding things.  So much like her daddy!  The day had gone so quick and before we knew it we said our goodbyes to Jack and Julie again, but they said they would come out once more before we go. So at least our final goodbyes to each other can go a little longer...

Bit of porn for the blokes trucks....

The crabs Boo spotted....

The following day we did school in the morning, then had a full day a the lagoon snorkeling and kayaking.  I saw an octopus which was pretty cool when snorkeling with Meg.  We saw it hiding under a rock camouflaged, and Meg even pointed it out to me that that's what they do to hide from the baddies!  So cool that she knows this stuff already.  When l took the kayak out l saw some sting rays, but they were so quick that l couldn't keep up with them.  Again, the magic underneath the water captivated us all and kept us entertained for hours.  The kids got sick of snorkeling after a while, but had just as much fun playing on the beach building sandcastles together.  That night we headed up to Mark and Amanda's camp to toast some marshmallows over the fire.  While the adults sat around and had some laughs, which was good for a change, the kids had a blast toasting their own marshmallows and getting on a sugar high.  It still felt slightly awkward between Mark and Amanda and us,  but it was good to have Ton and Cam and Vikki and Craig (the Woods other friends they have met up with) to soften the mood down between us all.

All kids together again...Jordyn, Boo, Charlotte, Meg, and Jake....MIA Riley who was...

...lazing on the beach!

The shacks at sunset...

Sadly since spraining my ankle at Gladstone l haven't been able to run, so stupidly l decided to do a 10km bike ride one day.  I headed up to the Quobba Station road, which seemed like a good idea at the time, stupid me didn't think about the road being corrugated, my bum got such a hiding!  On the way home, l was then faced with a strong head wind which took me twice as much time to ride the same distance.  I must say that l did feel good after it though, so that's all that matters.  After the ride it was great to have a hang out day at camp.  All the kids did all day was play. Boo and Meg are loving Jordyn and Riley, and since getting the toy cars out, the kids have been entertaining themselves with them for hours.  Thankfully Marty allowed us to have a shower that night, it was day 4 without one, and afterwards l actually felt human again.  Marty and l again got the bad parent award as we had warm showers but the girls had to opt for the cold ones, whoops! The squealing wasn't too bad considering, lol....

On day 5 it was time to head into Carnarvon for some water and stock up on some supplies.  It was a full morning racing around getting water and food.  We headed up the hill to see Jack and Julie as they had collected a parcel from the post office for us.  Meg got a pressie from her Aunty Ninnie and Uncle Boof which she totally loved as soon as she saw it, it was a Fidgie! Another noisy one but she loves it so that's all that matters.  Whilst at Jacks l picked up some weights that had been laying around for ages since they'd been there.  It will be good for some weight training. We arrived back at camp totally exhausted and with less money in the wallet, the food was so expensive.  Cost us $400 for the groceries alone! Hoping that the food will last to Exmouth?  The bloody washing even cost us $10. That night we drowned our sorrows and had a few drinks with Cam and Ton, love hanging out with these two. So great to have positivity around us after all the awful stuff that has gone down with the Woods.  Great feeling loved.

Decided to take a drive to Red Bluff on the Sunday.  The corrugated dirt road shook the car to bits but at least the views were spectacular with the road being alongside the cliffs, and had huge powerful waves crashing.  Just in awe at the landscape and the power behind water.  We got to Red Bluff which was a cool little place with heaps of camping options.  There were 'Glamping' styles in luxury tents, cabins or sites for tents and vans.  There was a small cool cafe selling lollies and icy poles, even a post office box!  We took a drive along until we found our spot for the day.

Not long to go...

Marty decided that walking to the beach 10m from the car was too much, so drove onto the beach, which in turn got bogged up to the Nissan's belly.  Was quite funny to watch him dig his way out as he still refused to get the Maxi Tracks off the roof and use.  We had been carrying these bloody things around Australia for three years now and when it comes time where he could actually use them, you'd think he would, hey? But instead, Cam snatched him out.  The few onlookers had grins on their faces and looked entertained at least.

Dig harder mate!!!

The snatch strap works best to Marty's disgust!
We found a shelter on the beach and after setting up for our picnic lunch we actually had time to take in the enormity of the waves crashing in on the beach.  It was nothing l'd ever seen on a beach before!  The waves would have had to have been at least 3m high, and the sound of the waves was nearly deafening at times, made me jump when l wasn't aware of my surroundings.  The poor kids were unable to swim there but they still had fun on the beach and playing in the ankle deep shallows of the water.   The back draw of the waves was so strong that Meg took a few rolls in the shallows due to the velocity.  Ton and l couldn't keep our eye off the kids for one moment,  don't think they understood what beach safety was at all or the consequences of powerful waves.

Took a pic of the kids before heading down to the waves just in case it was the last we saw of them!! Lol

Bloody huge....and loud!!!

Red Bluff was such a great place to chill though, both dads and kids had fun sandcastle making, Marty doing a huge car whilst Cam opted for traditional and did a big castle.  Ton and l used the time to relax and catch up on some reading.  By the time we had actually thought to take a walk up to the 'Bluff' it was late in the day, so decided to forgo that.  Instead, Marty, Meg and l walked up to the caves at the end of the beach. Meg thought it was so cool and that she could see gold in the rocks!

Kids turn to have a play......

We all headed back to camp late arvo and called in for a snorkel at the lagoon.  Only Marty, Cam and l got in and thank god as the current was so strong.  At some stages l had to suck my guts in not to skim it against the coral due to it being low tide.  I totally shat myself that l was going to cut myself on the coral and have to go to hospital for antibiotics due to infection.  I know, bloody over thinking nurses!  Was good to have a swim though after looking at the beach all day at Red Bluff and not being able to get into the water.

The last few days at Point Quobba were spent doing school work, snorkeling and chilling.  We plan to leave for Coral Bay on Wednesday so had to hang here until we could get into the caravan park there.  I decided to take a five km walk up to the lighthouse, again another great flippin idea. OMG!  The track looks steep but not as sandy as l had thought, and soft sinky sand too.  My butt was so sore the next day, might have been the walk or that l had done my first weight training session since l left Gero just before it!

Jack and Julie came out for the morning the day before we were due to go.  We all took a walk on the beach and saw an octopus, and as it happens, no one had a camera!! Was watching "Mike", a bloke camping near us that Marty was friendly with, drag his boat in, after a huge effort due to getting bogged in the water first!  Fun watching others getting bogged and not us for a change.   Julie found me some cool shells which was the start of our shell collection for WA.  Sadly, it was time to actually have our final goodbyes for now with Jack and Julie.  We gave one another the biggest hugs, we all love them both, such great people!

Overall, Point  Quobba had a good feeling about the place, such a great vibe, you know those places that give you that feeling of complete happiness.  Not many places have done that for us, so were quite surprised with our feelings of this place.  Totally loved it!  The snorkeling was overwhelming with its beauty of both the fish and coral.  We cant wait to see what Ningaloo has in store for us seeing its meant to be better than anywhere else along the WA coast.  So great to feel happy once again as a family and to be travelling.  Our feelings have been dampened of late, so great to have it back!

To finish off this overly long post l thought l'd add some landscape sunrise pics around our camp site......

This is a pic Tonia took one morning...which made me get up the next morning for the above pics.
If anyone is ever in this part of the country they MUST visit this heavenly place!!
