Barn Hill Station....did not disappoint!

Next day we were on the road early, not unhooking the day before, next stop Barn Hill.  Was a short drive of less than 200km up the road.  Again, the turn off road was a bit bumpy and dusty due to following the long line of nomads arriving too.  We finally pulled up and booked in for four nights in the unpowered site for $26 per night.  We had been told that the unpowered section was better due to views, beach access and the powered sites were full of permanent nomads packed in like sardines.  We found our perfect place, no beach views available, but we still had a glimpse of the ocean from our campsite.  We were in heaven.......

Car didn't quite make it in....

Time for a walk kids...

We ended up staying for five nights in total and our Barn Hill Station stay lived up to my expectations, it was absolutely fantastic!  The 'HardFirms' turned up the day after we arrived and pulled up next to us.  We all enjoyed days at the beach, the kids all loving the boggy boards riding the waves. Marty walked a path up and down the beach finding copious amounts of shells, hunting for the perfect Carrie shell.  I loved lying on the beach, reading my book and getting out with my camera.  Barn Hill has so many different facets to it.  On one side of the camp it has a beach lined with tall bright red cliffs overlooking a bright blue ocean and on the other side it has sandstone coloured pinnacle style formations, a 'Lost City' almost.  In between the two there are little rock pools that were like a warm bath to relax in.  We spent many afternoons down enjoying the beach after the kids had done their schooling.  The weather was perfect, sunny days with blue skies, the nights still cool though.  The unpowered section also had cool amenity blocks that were sectioned with galvanized iron sheets containing open air flushing toilets and poly pipe heated showers.  You had to make sure you showered before 3pm at the latest as all the hot water was used up after that and a cold shower was your only option.  I loved showering looking up at the sky, totally heavenly.... Having mates around is great as when the girls didn't feel like a stroll up the beach, Marty and l got to head off on our own, now that was heaven in itself!!!

What a beach.....

Happy to have a stroll by ourselves, no girls!

Amaxing colors and textures in the rocks hugging the beach...

Marty and l reckon it looked like a giant fish coming out of

Outdoor amenities...country rustic at its best.
Shower with no roof!

Ton and l took to having little photographic sessions trying to capture the stunning landscape.  Our photography was improving and we were totally loving it.  It was hard yakka though, felt like all day was spent looking thru a lens, almost obsessive you could say.  Still fun though.  A few nights we strolled down to the beach with our head torches and did sunset pics of the coastline and water rolling in over the rocks.  We even set the alarm for a sunrise session, now that dedication or insanity, whatever you want to define it as..... Anyway, as you can see, it was worth it...

One day we decided to head up the beach by ourselves and take a stroll, the girls had an awesome time exploring the rock holes and searching for hermit crabs.  Boo came across a big crab covered in moss and looked like it was growing from the plant life underneath the ocean...Marty as always combing for shells.  We even saw dolphins coasting along in the shallows of hte ocean, we were all excited.

Only pic of the dolphin l could get...

Loved the sand patterns created on this beach...

I took to doing a few runs on the beach, first one was good as the sand was hard and compacted. The next time, the sand was so soft it took me twice as long and due to me being so stubborn l kept going, which has ended up with me suffering from a twinge in my L) hip due to running on a slope.  Hopefully it improves, this old body is wearing out l reckon, thought exercise was meant to make you feel younger, instead l wake feeling like a sore old grandma with brittle bones!!! Now you might be asking why l put myself thru this, well Marty has taken to buying Barn Hill Station's homemade vanilla slices daily which l cant resist, hence, needing to work off those calories.  We were even buying their freshly baked bread daily, at $6 per loaf, they were delicious.  A whole loaf was only lasting for one meal of lunch, we were pigs!  Another unique activity at Barn Hill Station, other than getting fat eating their scrumptious pastries and bread, is working it off playing lawn bowls.  Girls were fascinate watching the Grey Nomads having a tournament, no wonder there are plenty of vans here long term, they still get to get their bowls in on their holidays!

Bowl's comp in full flow....

We caught up with Rhonda and Ross, a couple we met from DeGrey River, who pulled into camp.  One night we headed down for the BBQ night and had a ball.  We had met another travelling family, funnily thru another friend on facebook.  So funny how you meet people.  Due to me commenting on this mates post l found out this other family were camping at Barn Hill too.  They weren't too hard to find, being in the only bus in the place and it having a huge ass sticker on the side of it being "Big Bertha".  I told the girls and the next morning they went out on the hunt and before you know it they were in having a massive loom party with their kids, Lexie and Angus.  Saccha and Duncan, the parents, were awesome and are doing a twelve month trip.  They weren't too shy in letting us come in and have a sticky beck in the bus, which by the way was fantastic.  Very jealous of them having a normal full thickness mattress and bed, a real fridge and a front loader washing machine!!! After meeting them, we stayed and chatted for hours, love meeting new people. They are heading in the same direction so reckon we will be bumping into them alot, the kids get along like a house on fire too.  Anyway, they joined us for the BBQ night with Rhonda and Ross and we all had the best belly laughs.  Old Ross even sprouting jokes involving vibrators which sent us into hysterics.....

Rock pools great place to cool off..

Sadly, we had to move on to Broome to catch the 'Staircase to the Moon', luckily we had made the decision to leave as the morning we woke to leave the sky was full of dark clouds and small sprinkles of rain were falling.  There was no way we wanted to stay here with rain with the campsite bound to turn into mud with puddles!  So with that, we all packed up and headed for Broome..... Sad to farewell this place, it is totally amazing and if anyone is passing thru this way they should totally call in for a week stay minimum!!!
