Farther north we go...shell collecting at 80 Mile Beach.

It was a hard thing leaving DeGrey River as we were having such a peaceful and relaxing time, but it was time to move on and make our way to Barn Hill Station over the next few days.  I had Barn Hill Station on our bucketlist ever since leaving Shepparton over 3 years ago, heard it was so amazing and l was so excited that we were finally in reach of staying there.

We said our goodbyes to the "HardFirms" once again, it seems since Karijini we were a day ahead of each other all the time.  We left DeGrey River and headed a little up the road to check out Cape Keraudren, a little sea shanty place up the road that we had heard about.  We took the short slightly corrugated dirt road down to find a man manning the entrance requesting a $10 entrance fee to the area.  I explained that l wanted to check it out to see if wanted to camp there first and he refused us entry unless we paid, so we turned around and told him to jam it in a slightly less friendly way than we would normally.  What  a bloody rip off, couldn't even go down for a look.  We did pass some cows along the way on the side of the road grazing which l have come to fall in love with them with their big droopy ears...

Outback humour!

After the half hour detour for nothing we proceeded up north  and stopped off at 80 Mile Beach for lunch, Marty cursing the dirt road down to the beach the hole time, needless to say it was very corrugated and the van shook a bit.  We all headed down to the beach which we spent a few hours combing it for shells.  The girls did a bee line straight for the water but l pulled them back to let them know that there was probably crocs lurking about which made them only splash about up to their knees.  I was really surprised at how murky and brown the water was, l was expecting crystal clear blue water that we had been treated to all the way along the WA coast.  Knowing that it wasn't a swimming beach helped us with the decision not to stay the night, it was also a bit pricey at over $60 per night!!! We had a great time collecting shells, Meg loved chasing the hermit crabs up and down the beach, she even tried to hide a few to keep as pets while we travelled, little bugger....Boo on the other hand put her talents to use and stuck a few shells over her boob area pretending to be a mermaid! We all had a chuckle...Marty was in the zone trying to find the perfect shells, being a natural hoarder l wasn't surprised at how our shell collection was growing along the way. Seeing our hands and pockets were full of shells, we headed back to the car for our peanut butter saladas for lunch.  We took the drive out slowly, Marty still cursing the road!!!

The Ellis's (another of our travelling family mates) had recommended the Sandfire Roadhouse as a good one nighter to camp at which had a few surprises for the kids out the back so we decided to head there and pull up for the night.  Bit of a rip off at $30 per night with no power or water!!! But at least it had a few entertaining attractions to keep the kids amused.  We were also in big need of a shower, not having had one for a few days, maybe three!! We pulled up late arvo, knocked the top off a few beers and took a stroll around the place.  The Sandfire Roadhouse itself had alot of character and memorabilia up on the walls and even a bar around the side!!! Out the back it had antique petrol bowsers and sleeping bunks which the girls played with.  It also had heaps of information about the few cyclones that been thru over the years, the owners had rebuilt a few times.  Really fascinating stuff.  Now out the back, they had a huge ass bull with amazing horns who was housed with a weird looking camel.  There was a sign with a warning not to get too close and later in the evening we found out why... Whilst trying to give him a pat he started to line us up to spit on us, we quickly stood back not wanting camel spit to give us our first shower in days!! lol.  There were also peacocks and ducks with little ducklings around and little wallabies who were easily startled.  Girls loved it and after being in the car for most the day, was good to see them have a bit of fun. I enjoyed the longest shower at the end of the day, couldn't get enough.  Amazing how the simplest things in life make you happy.....
Camp for the night...

Meg loved the mother duck and her chicks....

Had to get a pat before we departed.

That night, the kids were annoying me, well l was probably just in an irritating mood, so l headed out to have some 'alone time' with the Nikon trying take some pics of the night sky, didn't turn out as good as in my head, but still fun to play in peace.....
