Next morning we were up with the sparrows and moved down to our other campsites, which would be home for us for the next 9 days! Glad we got to the generator area as the sun hide for periods over the days we were at Karijini National Park.

Bit chilly so what better way to start the day but with cooked breaky. |
First day was spent pretty casually exploring a few things. We took the short walk across to Fortescue Falls to check it out. As we arrived at the lookout our jaws dropped at the beauty we were facing. After Ton finished freaking out at the kids being too close to the fence overlooking the cliff drop we walked down the rocky steps, passing thru awesome trees lining the path, arriving on the top of the falls.

Fortescue Falls! |
We clambered down the jagged slated rock cliff to the bottom and where greeted with a stepping stone path to cross. Luckily the kids didn't come down as l reckon there would've been a few wet shoes. Fortescue Falls were spectacular and Ton and l got the cameras out and played around for at least an hour trying to capture the right shot while the boys kept their eyes on the kids who were running a muck on the cliff face on the opposite side. The ferns that were growing off the cliff wall had drips of water falling off them to the small pools on the ground, just a photographers heaven. The dart bird even hung around around for a few shots!

Dart bird loving the place too.. |

As we were taking our photos down the bottom of the falls, the blokes were doing a typical 'dad' way of looking after the kids, hence the place was filled with Ton and l bellowing from below for the kids to stop playing on the cliff face and running around whilst the blokes sat around enjoying the views!

After lunch we took a drive to fill a bit of the day in to the Visitors Info Center. Now l wasn't expecting much, but OMG it was fantastic. It was so well presented, looking fairly new. It had many displays of local photographers work showcasing the magical falls around the NP. It also had a brilliant informative area about the local aboriginal tribes that reside in Karijini and about past stories living in the bush on the surrounding pastoral stations in the area. There were stories shared about the stolen generation and how it impacted on them personally, l imagine it would have been difficult for them to look back and share these intimate and horrifying experiences knowing that many people would be viewing them. Quite fascinating and also devastating to see how the aboriginals were treated back in the early days, more like slaves than humans. I think it opened the kids eyes to how things have changed. Funny how we never learnt about these past experiences in our history lessons in school....
I've just added some photos from the end of our walk for the day that l just love....

Happy to be snuggled in bed after a day of exploring! |
So Day One at Karijini NP was amazing, both visually and with what we have learnt about the area. I expect we have just touched the surface of this place and cant wait for the next week to unfold!!!
