We packed up and left Dampier in good time for big trip to Port Hedland. On the way we veered off and had a sticky beak at Point Samson, cool little sea side town. At Honeymoon Bay on the other side of town we took a wander around, such awesome jagged colourful rocks and boulders surrounding the beach. On the way out to the main road we called into Wickem to check out the huge mine trucks and railway train. The kids all proceeded to get up and climb on them, so all parents had to yell for them to get off and read the "no climbing" signs! It was mid morning and we hadn't gotten very far.

We stopped for lunch just outside of Port Hedland so the kids wouldn't whinge that they were starving. Driving into South Hedland it was brilliant following all the road trains, there was also a bloody long railway heading into town too, went for miles! As we finally made it to South Hedland we marvelled at the whirlwind of whistling kites above the sporting complex. Would have been at least 50 of them circling in the warm wind drift. We had to stop off at the South Hedland shopping complex to look for a video camera seeing a sunk it at Exmouth in the ocean. It was getting late in the arvo and we still had to fill up with fuel and get water. What is it with towns not supplying water to travellers? There was no water at the servo and it would be a bloody 40 min round trip to Port Hedland and back to get water. So we drove around looking, deciding to head into town as couldn't get any anywhere. We even checked out the church! On the way to Port Hedland we missed the turn off and ended up at Port Hedland racecourse to do U-turn. Marty noticed RV camping signs along the racetrack! We were all so excited as it was 1630hrs and had another two hours drive ahead of us. Pulled up to area down the back which was full of bindies, but at least it was free and we didn't have to drive anymore. But Marty wasn't happy, so he went and saw the caretaker and he said we could park over on nice grassed area just on outside the track, nearby flushing toilets and could even fill our water up!!! Cant believe this place was not on Wiki or in our Camp 7 bible. Seeing Ton had cooked the night before, l got out cooked nachos for everyone. Ton and Cam finally pulled in as they were at Pretty Point filling their water up without knowing what luck we had stuck onto. The backpackers apparently took the piss out of Cameron due him being frazzled and ending up backing over their filled water containers, splitting some open....whoops!

Longest railway we've seen for a while! |

Amazing whistling kites!!! |
Even the day had worn us all out, we were graced with a good ending witnessing another awesome sunset with trains going past. Seeing the kids had been stuck in the car all day, they ended up going crazy running around, been a while since we'd had a grassed site!! While sitting around having a few drinks the kids stripped down to undies and ran around crazier! It ended up being a great end of day, not like l thought it was going to turn out with everyone being frazzled at some point. When we got to bed we noticed the sprinklers were on which started washing the van. Marty and l pissed ourselves as we said "this place even has a free car wash"!

Notice the sign....yeah we're rebels! lol |

Kids gone loopy!!! |
The next morning Cam and l did a run around race track, good to run with someone for once. We packed up as it was time to get out of here and head to Karijini National Park, totally excited!! Another place to tick off the bucket list and we were looking forward to exploring the natural wonders of inland WA seeing we had covered the coastline......
